I'm planning a build mainly for GTA RP and Battlefield at QHD resolution on a 180Hz monitor. I'm considering an RTX 5070 and already have, or plan to use, 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL38 memory and a 750W power supply. I have roughly $400 available for the CPU, motherboard, and possibly a power supply. Which processor would be the best match without creating a significant bottleneck?

For gaming, an X3D chip is a good fit, but you don’t strictly need the 7800X3D. The 7600X3D offers six cores and excellent gaming performance, while the 7800X3D has eight cores and is better if you want extra longevity, higher minimum frame rates in CPU-heavy games, or plan to upgrade the graphics card later. Pair either one with an appropriate AM5 motherboard and your 32GB DDR5 kit.
A Ryzen 5 7600X3D should be more than enough for this setup, especially at 1440p where the RTX 5070 will often be the limiting component. It’s a strong gaming-focused choice if you can find it at a reasonable price. A Ryzen 7 7800X3D will provide more CPU headroom, but the difference may not justify the extra cost for your budget.
Your 750W unit should generally be adequate for an RTX 5070 and one of these processors, assuming it’s a decent-quality model and has the required graphics-card power connector. I’d prioritize a good B650 motherboard and the 7600X3D, then spend the remaining money on cooling or a stronger GPU only if your budget allows. At 1440p, the GPU will commonly matter more than moving from a 7600X3D to a 7800X3D.
