I upgraded my PC in 2024 with an Intel Core i9-14900KF, RTX 5070 Ti, Gigabyte B760M AORUS ELITE X AX motherboard, 1050W power supply, and four 48GB DDR5 sticks for 192GB total. The memory is rated for 6800MHz, but I could never enable XMP successfully. With four sticks installed, the system became less stable and the default memory speed fell from 5600MHz to 4800MHz, then to 4000MHz after updating the BIOS to F11. I understand that four high-capacity DIMMs place much more stress on the CPU's integrated memory controller, so reaching the advertised memory speed may not be realistic.
The system also developed frequent BSODs, sometimes involving Valorant's Vanguard driver, along with crashes during demanding games. Temperatures were excessive even when lowering game settings. Reducing the processor's power limits to 150W and changing the BIOS profile from Extreme to Performance helped the temperatures, but crashes continued. At one point the computer entered Windows Automatic Repair repeatedly, even after reinstalling Windows.
I tested the memory sticks individually, although I realize that does not completely rule out a memory-controller or motherboard problem. The CPU was eventually considered degraded, so I submitted it for an RMA replacement. Once the replacement arrives, I want to configure the BIOS conservatively rather than run the aggressive settings intended for maximum benchmark performance. What settings and testing process would you recommend for stable gaming and everyday use? Should I start with only two DIMMs in slots A2 and B2, leave XMP disabled, and use lower power limits?

For the new processor, update the BIOS, load optimized defaults, and avoid the motherboard's Extreme or automatic overclocking profiles. Use Intel-recommended power limits or a conservative manual limit, and make sure the cooler is mounted properly. Keep XMP disabled initially, then run several passes of a memory test and extended CPU and gaming tests. If crashes continue at stock settings with two DIMMs, save the Windows minidumps and check them rather than assuming Vanguard or the RAM is the cause; the crash logs can help distinguish a driver problem from faulty hardware or memory corruption.
Start with two matching DIMMs in the motherboard's A2 and B2 slots. Four 48GB modules are a heavy load for the memory controller, and the board's advertised maximum speed does not guarantee that four high-density sticks will run at that speed. With 96GB, try the default JEDEC speed first, then test a moderate memory speed before attempting XMP. Stability is more important than reaching 6800MHz, especially on a replacement CPU.

That makes sense. I mainly used four modules for the appearance and because I had already paid for the full 192GB kit, but 96GB should be enough. I will begin with two sticks in A2 and B2 and test stability before trying any faster settings.
