My former girlfriend has been paying for my internet contract, so I'm not sure whether the service is temporarily down or whether the account was canceled. Every device can connect to the wireless network, but each one says there's no internet access. How can I determine whether this is a router problem, an outage, or a disconnected service account?

Connecting to Wi‑Fi only confirms that your devices can communicate with the router; it doesn’t prove that the router has an active internet connection. Try connecting a computer directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable if possible, or test with another router. If the wired connection also has no internet, the issue is probably the service, modem, or account rather than the Wi‑Fi network.
First power-cycle both the modem and the router: unplug them, wait about a minute, then plug the modem back in and wait for it to fully reconnect before powering on the router. If every device still has Wi‑Fi but no internet, check the provider’s outage page or contact the provider to confirm whether the account is active. Since someone else manages the contract, an account cancellation is definitely possible.
You can open a command prompt or terminal and run `ping 8.8.8.8`. If you get replies, the internet connection is working at the network level and the problem may be DNS-related. If it fails on every device, that points more toward an outage, disconnected service, or modem problem. The provider can confirm the account status and whether there’s an outage in your area.

How can I tell whether it’s just an outage rather than the contract being canceled?
