I want to apply new stickers to my laptop, but the old ones left behind stubborn, gluey residue. What's the safest way to clean it off without damaging the laptop's plastic or finish?

A plastic-safe screen or electronics cleaner can work well with microfiber cloths. Work slowly and use only a small amount of liquid, keeping it away from vents, ports, and the keyboard.

Products such as Goo Gone, adhesive remover, or sometimes WD-40 may loosen stubborn glue, but they should be used sparingly and only after checking that they’re safe for the laptop’s surface. Finish by wiping the area with isopropyl alcohol or a suitable electronics cleaner.

I thought WD-40 was mainly for rusty screws. Is it actually safe for sticker residue?

It can loosen adhesive, but it leaves an oily film and may affect some plastics or coatings. I’d try alcohol or a plastic-safe adhesive remover first, and test any product on a hidden area.

For plastic cases, baby oil can be a gentle first step. Soak a paper towel, place it over the residue for several hours or overnight, then wipe everything away and clean the surface afterward. Avoid acetone and other harsh solvents because they can soften or discolor plastic.

Start with isopropyl alcohol on a microfiber cloth and gently rub the residue. You can also use a dedicated adhesive remover, but apply it to the cloth rather than directly to the laptop and test it on an inconspicuous spot first.
