Can I safely vacuum dust out of an empty PC case?

I bought a used PC case that needs a thorough cleaning. Since there are no components inside, is it safe to use a vacuum to remove the dust? Should I take the fans out or stop them from spinning? I'd also appreciate general advice for cleaning the case without scratching it or causing static buildup.

Compressed air is the usual option. Clean the case outdoors if possible, use short bursts, and keep the fans from spinning while you blow them out. A hair dryer generally isn’t ideal because it can add heat and may not move dust as effectively, unless it has a genuine cool-air setting.

A small battery-powered shop vacuum with a narrow attachment is fine for an empty case. Start by removing filters and loose panels, then vacuum the dust while keeping the nozzle slightly away from the surfaces. Wipe the remaining grime with a microfiber cloth or lightly dampened cloth, and let everything dry completely before installing hardware.

A vacuum can work, especially with the case empty, but compressed air or an electric air duster usually does a better job of pushing dust out of corners. If you use a vacuum, avoid dragging a plastic nozzle across surfaces and don’t use a brush attachment that could build up static. Hold each fan still while cleaning so it doesn’t spin freely.

Since the case is empty, would a hair dryer work as an air blower?
