I'm looking for advice on choosing a lightweight Linux distribution. The laptop is a Lenovo B50-10 with an Intel Pentium processor and 4 GB of DDR3 RAM. I haven't used lightweight distributions before and have already read about Puppy Linux, but I'm unsure which option would be the best fit. Recommendations for something that runs smoothly, especially when installed to the hard drive, would be greatly appreciated.

Linux Mint XFCE and Bodhi Linux are both worth considering. Either should run reasonably well with a Pentium processor and 4 GB of memory, while still giving you a fairly complete desktop experience.
MX Linux or antiX would be strong choices for those specifications. You could try their live USB modes first to check hardware compatibility and see which desktop environment feels most comfortable.
Puppy Linux is especially useful when running directly from a USB drive. If you want to install Linux to the laptop’s internal drive, antiX is another lightweight option that may be a better fit.
A distribution using the XFCE desktop should be a good match for this hardware. MX Linux with XFCE or Linux Mint XFCE would be beginner-friendly choices without being too demanding.

Thanks, that gives me several options to test. I’ll try them from USB first so I can compare them before installing one and hopefully keep the laptop useful for longer.
