I'm planning to move my main PC into a Fractal Design North case and would like to use its front-panel USB-C port. My current ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus WiFi motherboard doesn't have the required internal USB-C header, so I'm considering replacing it while using the current board for a small gaming-focused server.
My main system has a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 32GB of 3600MHz memory, an RTX 4070 Super, and two M.2 SSDs. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are preferred, although I could add them with an expansion card if necessary. I'm looking for an AM4 motherboard in the $150–$300 range and don't plan to move to AM5 anytime soon.
I've seen very expensive boards with the correct internal header, but I'm unsure whether B550 or X570 is more appropriate. Are there reasonably priced boards that support the case's front USB-C port at useful speeds? Would an adapter or PCIe expansion card be a better solution?

A PCIe USB expansion card with an internal USB-C header is also a viable route. It won’t necessarily be limited to USB 2.0—the actual speed depends on the card’s controller and available PCIe bandwidth. This can be cheaper than replacing a perfectly usable motherboard, but make sure the card specifically includes an internal Type-E header rather than only external ports.
You may not need a new motherboard at all. Your current board has a USB 3.x internal header, and a 19-pin USB 3 header-to-front-USB-C adapter can connect the case cable. That should provide USB 3 speeds, typically around 5Gbps, rather than limiting the port to USB 2.0. Check the adapter’s wiring and orientation before buying.
These adapters are usually inexpensive and are probably the simplest option. For maximum transfer speeds, you can still use a faster USB-C port on the rear I/O.
Several Gigabyte B550 and X570 Aorus models include the internal front USB-C connector, including boards in the Aorus Elite family. Used prices may fit your budget, but check the exact revision and confirm that the board includes Wi-Fi if you don’t want to add an expansion card.
The ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II is another good match. It includes the front USB-C header, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and is fully compatible with the 5800X3D. B550 should be sufficient here; X570 mainly offers additional chipset connectivity and PCIe lanes, which you likely don’t need for this setup.
If you want a board with the native Type-E internal connector, the ASRock B550 PG Riptide is one affordable option and supports a front USB-C header rated for USB 3.2 Gen 2. It has enough capability for a 5800X3D, your graphics card, and two NVMe drives, though you’d need separate Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if wireless connectivity is required.

That sounds better than using a basic USB 2.0 converter. It may not reach the absolute maximum advertised speed, but it should still be plenty fast for ordinary front-panel use.
