I'm upgrading from an Intel Core i7-8700K system with an RX 9070, using a Fractal Design Meshify C case. I'd like to move to an AM5 X3D processor, but I'm unsure which model offers the best value. I already have 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, so I only need a CPU and motherboard. My target budget is about $400–$450 for both, with an absolute maximum of roughly $500 if the extra performance is worthwhile. I care more about value and performance than appearance, and a white motherboard is perfectly acceptable if it's the best deal. I'm located in the United States and don't have access to a Micro Center.

With the motherboard included, the lower end of that budget points toward the Ryzen 5 7600X3D. A pairing such as the 7600X3D with an affordable B850 Wi-Fi board can come in around $410 total, making it the best fit if you want to stay close to $400–$450. Six cores are still plenty for a gaming-focused system, especially at 1440p.
If you specifically want eight cores, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is the practical alternative. With a similar motherboard, it lands around $500, so it only fits if you’re comfortable using the top of your budget. For a primarily gaming-oriented build, the 7600X3D is likely the better value, while the 7800X3D makes more sense if you also run CPU-heavy applications, stream heavily, or want additional core headroom.

Thanks! Do you think the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is really worth spending about $100 more for 1440p gaming?
