Why is BitLocker asking for my recovery key after a BIOS message?

I'm not very tech-savvy, but something weird happened with my PC. When I turned it on yesterday, I got a message saying there was a change in the BIOS and something about CMOS, which prompted me to select how I wanted to start up my computer. Then today, I encountered a BitLocker prompt asking for my recovery key. I checked, and my drives seem to be unlocked, plus there's no malware or spyware on my computer. Can someone explain what might have caused this?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a BIOS reset or possibly a dead battery. Check if your BIOS has a changelog; that could give you some clues on what changed.

BitLocker uses a TPM chip to store the encryption key, which checks for any unexpected changes in your system before releasing the key. Something in your BIOS or CMOS settings likely changed, leading to this trust issue. Once you enter your recovery key, Windows should reset the TPM, and everything will go back to normal.

Why do you need to know about TPM unless you're in the CIA or something?
