I'm comfortable with Python and SQL, and I understand the basic syntax and concepts. The problem is that I still feel like I know how to use individual tools without knowing how to read the blueprint for a real application.
When I try to build something from scratch, I'm not sure how to structure the code, connect the different parts, plan for edge cases, or decide what belongs where. I understand the building blocks, but I haven't learned how to turn them into a complete project.
How did you make the transition from learning fundamentals to designing and finishing full projects?

Look at well-organized projects to see how they separate configuration, business logic, database access, testing, and error handling. At first, code from other projects can seem overwhelming, so focus on one small section at a time. It also helps to build an intentionally simple version first and refactor it afterward. Architecture makes more sense when you have a real problem that requires it.
Planning helps a lot. Begin by writing down what the program should do, who will use it, and what it should refuse or handle differently. Break those requirements into smaller tasks, then arrange them based on dependencies. That gives you a practical development plan instead of trying to imagine the entire system at once.
Start with a small, concrete project and build it one piece at a time. A full application is really just a collection of smaller building blocks: accept input, validate it, query the database, handle failures, and return a result. You don’t need to solve the whole architecture before writing code. Get a basic version working, then improve the structure as you discover what needs to change.
This is a very common stage. Pick a project that is small enough to finish, and research only the next step when you reach it. Each implementation teaches you something new. Tools that explain unfamiliar code or suggest starting points can help, but make sure you understand and modify what they produce rather than treating it as a finished solution.
Build a basic skeleton from the top down, then fill in each part and connect the pieces gradually. Don’t wait until you’ve mastered software architecture before starting; most of that understanding comes from building several projects, seeing what becomes difficult, and learning better patterns for the next one.
