Which Linux distribution would be a good replacement for Windows on a Gigabyte G6KF?

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with Windows updates and the extra features Microsoft keeps adding. Rainbow Six Siege was the last thing keeping me tied to Windows, but I've moved on from it and am finally ready to try Linux. There are so many distributions and desktop environments that I'm not sure where to begin. I'll be installing it on a 2024 Gigabyte G6KF laptop, so I'd appreciate recommendations that are beginner-friendly and likely to work well with modern laptop hardware.

Fedora would be a solid first choice. It’s modern, well-supported, and a good way to get started without using an overly customized distribution.

Since you’re coming from Windows, consider a KDE-based setup. Fedora KDE Spin or Kubuntu both provide a familiar desktop layout and plenty of customization, which can make the transition easier.

Before committing, try a few distributions from a USB drive or in a virtual machine. Beginner guides and learning resources such as Linux Journey and the Explaining Computers videos can help you understand the basics. Also make sure your important files are backed up before installing anything.

I’ll probably try Fedora first, especially since several people suggested it. I’ll also look into the KDE version so the transition from Windows feels less abrupt.
