My Windows 11 laptop charger was stolen, so I replaced the original 65W charger with a 110W charger from another manufacturer. When I plugged in the replacement, the laptop unexpectedly started at the blue BitLocker recovery screen. The device is working again, so I'm not looking for emergency troubleshooting. I'm trying to understand whether using a different charger could have triggered BitLocker, or whether another hardware, firmware, or software change was more likely responsible. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

If the laptop had to recover only once and then booted normally after entering the recovery key, I’d look for a recent BIOS or firmware update, a reset of BIOS settings, Secure Boot changes, or a TPM/boot error. Make sure you have the BitLocker recovery key backed up in a safe place. Before changing BIOS or firmware settings in the future, suspend BitLocker first and resume it afterward, when practical.
BitLocker recovery is usually caused by a change in the boot-trust environment, such as a BIOS or UEFI update/reset, Secure Boot or TPM changes, altered boot settings, firmware problems, or sometimes a system update or boot failure. The timing with the charger was probably coincidental. A complete battery drain or power-related firmware issue could possibly have exposed another problem, but the charger itself is very unlikely to be the cause.
A different charger shouldn’t trigger BitLocker. Laptops commonly switch between wall adapters, docks, power banks, and vehicle chargers. As long as the charger supports the right charging standard and provides enough power, it won’t normally affect the TPM or BitLocker. An underpowered or faulty charger may cause charging warnings or instability, but that’s not a normal BitLocker trigger.

That makes sense. I did several Windows updates recently, so it’s possible something was installed or finalized around the time this happened. I’ll check the update and system logs to see whether there was a BIOS, driver, or boot-related change.
