I recently bought an APC Back-UPS 600 (BN600) for my PC. It works normally, but the alarm beeps are extremely loud. Is there a safe way to quiet or temporarily mute them, especially so the alarm won't wake anyone if the power goes out?

The manual describes a Quick Mute feature: during a correctable alarm such as On Battery, Battery Disconnected, or Overload, briefly press the power button for less than two seconds. A double beep confirms that the alarm is temporarily muted. Holding the button for more than two seconds turns the UPS off. Avoid cutting or disconnecting the internal speaker, since that would also hide important warnings.
The beeping is normally an alert that the UPS is on battery, overloaded, or has a battery problem. It shouldn’t beep continuously while utility power is available and everything is operating normally. Check the load and make sure only the PC and monitor are connected to the battery-backed outlets. Printers, especially laser printers, should not be connected there.
This model is only rated for around 360 watts, so a gaming PC and monitor could put it close to its limit. Repeated beeps with pauses usually mean it’s running on battery, while a periodic chirp can indicate a battery that needs replacing. If the unit has a USB data connection, APC PowerChute or compatible UPS-monitoring software may let you disable the utility-power failure alarm, but critical alarms such as overload or battery replacement generally cannot be permanently disabled.
Before muting anything, check the UPS load and battery status. The alarm may be warning that the equipment won’t stay powered for long.
It doesn’t beep during normal operation. I’m mainly worried about the alarm waking my roommate during a power outage.
