I'm putting together a gaming setup with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and want to play at 1440p with high frame rates. My budget is around £1,000 in the UK, though I'm not sure whether that should cover just the graphics card or both the GPU and monitor. What graphics card would pair well with this CPU, and which 1440p monitor would you recommend?

The Radeon RX 9070 or RX 9070 XT looks like the strongest value choice for 1440p right now. The XT model gives you more performance, so it’s worth considering if the price fits your budget. Check current UK pricing before deciding, since the value difference can vary by region.

If you specifically want Nvidia features, the RTX 5070 Ti is another option, but it may cost significantly more while offering roughly similar gaming performance to the RX 9070 XT. For straightforward 1440p high-FPS gaming, the Radeon cards are generally the better value.

Before choosing, compare benchmarks from several games rather than relying only on the model names. Your exact budget, the rest of your PC specifications, and whether you care about ray tracing or upscaling will all affect the best choice. For the monitor, look for a good 1440p high-refresh-rate display that matches the frame rates the chosen GPU can deliver.

The RX 9070 XT is worth researching first. It should handle demanding 1440p games very well, including high settings and strong frame rates, while leaving more of the budget available for a suitable high-refresh-rate monitor.
