I'm considering upgrading to the Ryzen 7 5800X3D Anniversary Edition, which currently costs about €320. I'd prefer to stay on the AM4 platform, and the 5800X3D seems like the best gaming processor available for it. I'm currently using a Ryzen 7 5700X, playing at 1080p, and struggling to maintain over 165 FPS in games such as VALORANT. My graphics card is a GTX 1660 Ti, so I know it may limit performance in some situations. Is €320 a reasonable price for this CPU, or is it likely to become cheaper soon? Could its price rise instead as production ends?

The 5800X3D is a huge upgrade from Ryzen 3000 or older processors, but the jump from a 5700X is much smaller. The extra L3 cache can still help in CPU-heavy games and improve frame-time consistency, but whether it’s worth €320 depends heavily on the games you play and your performance target.
I wouldn’t count on the price dropping much. Once a processor is no longer being produced, remaining stock can stay expensive or even become more costly. If you specifically want the 5800X3D and €320 is within your budget, waiting may not guarantee a better deal.
At 1080p, a faster CPU can make a noticeable difference when you’re chasing high refresh rates, especially in competitive games. However, the improvement from a 5700X probably won’t feel dramatic across every title, and your GTX 1660 Ti may still be the limiting component in many games.
The upgrade makes the most sense for 1080p gaming with a high-refresh-rate monitor or for pairing with a stronger graphics card. At 1440p or 4K, the GPU usually matters more. With a 1660 Ti, upgrading the graphics card would likely provide a larger overall gaming improvement, but the 5800X3D is still the strongest drop-in gaming upgrade for AM4.
That makes sense. My main reason for considering it is competitive 1080p gaming, where I’m trying to keep frame rates above 165 FPS rather than improve visual quality.

I’m mainly interested because of the much larger cache and because I’m trying to maintain 165+ FPS at 1080p. I’m aware the GTX 1660 Ti will limit me in other games, but I’d still like to know whether €320 is a sensible price.
