I'm a third-year computer science student building my first PC in the Philippines, and I'm feeling unsure about spending roughly ₱100,000 on an AM4 system. My planned build uses a Ryzen 7 5700X, RTX 5060 8GB, B550 motherboard, 32GB DDR4-3600 memory, a 1TB Gen4 NVMe SSD, a white micro-ATX case with matching fans and cooler, a 750W Gold modular PSU, two monitors, and several peripherals. The total is about ₱100,275, including the PSU and other accessories purchased together to maximize discounts.
My main uses are 1080p gaming—mostly Valorant, Marvel Rivals, Roblox, modded Minecraft, and Apex—along with Unity/game development, programming, multitasking, Discord, Spotify, schoolwork, and general productivity. I want the system to be quiet, power-efficient, and mostly white for sentimental reasons. I'm also buying a microphone and webcam for my long-distance girlfriend.
I chose 32GB of RAM because I expect to keep several applications open while working, not just for gaming. However, the idea of spending this much and still using AM4 makes me wonder whether I should redesign the build around AM5 while keeping the entire setup, including peripherals, within the same ₱100,000 budget. Is AM4 reasonable for these needs, or would AM5 provide a better long-term value?

AM4 can still be the right decision when the budget includes the whole setup rather than just the tower. A good AM5 processor, motherboard, and DDR5 kit can cost substantially more, especially when you want 32GB and white components. Since the Ryzen 7 5700X is already capable for 1080p gaming and productivity, the AM4 build isn’t automatically wasting money. The main disadvantage is that future CPU upgrades are limited compared with AM5.
AM4 will handle 1080p gaming very well, especially with the games you listed. That said, AM5 gives you a newer platform and a better upgrade path, so it may save you from replacing the motherboard and memory later. Whether the extra cost is worthwhile depends on how long you plan to keep the system and whether you expect to upgrade the CPU in the future.
32GB is a sensible choice for programming, Unity, browser tabs, Discord, Spotify, and schoolwork all running together. You probably don’t need 64GB yet unless your projects become much larger or you start using virtual machines and heavier development tools. For your current needs, 2x16GB is the practical balance, and spending more on memory could force bigger compromises elsewhere.
I’m still working on small-to-medium projects, so 64GB feels excessive for now. I’d rather keep 32GB and leave room to upgrade later if my workload grows.

That’s what makes the choice difficult. I know the 5700X is capable, but spending around ₱100,000 makes me worry that I should prioritize a newer platform even if it means giving up some aesthetics or peripherals.
