I'm using a Vega 7 integrated GPU, and most games run around 60 FPS at medium settings when set to 720p. On my current 1080p monitor, lowering the resolution makes the image look noticeably blurry. Would 720p look clearer on a 1440p monitor because 1440 is exactly twice 720, or would the monitor's scaling still make it blurry?

A dedicated graphics card would probably improve things more than changing from a 1080p monitor to a 1440p one. Even an older budget card could handle 1080p at 60 FPS more comfortably than a Vega 7 in many games. If upgrading isn’t practical, running the game in a smaller centered window with a black background may look sharper than stretching 720p across the entire screen.
The exact 2:1 resolution relationship helps, but it isn’t a guarantee. Check your GPU control panel or monitor settings for integer scaling, since many displays stretch lower resolutions with smoothing. Before buying a new monitor, try the game’s built-in FSR if it supports it; that can look better than letting the monitor upscale a plain 720p image.
720p can look better on a 1440p display because each source pixel can map cleanly to a 2×2 block of pixels. That only works properly if the monitor or graphics driver uses integer or nearest-neighbor scaling, though. If it uses regular interpolation, the result may still look soft. It also won’t look as sharp as a native 720p display, and the higher pixel density can make the blur less obvious.
Not everyone can simply buy a graphics card, especially if this is a laptop, mini PC, or a budget system. In that case, integer scaling and a smaller window are more realistic options.
