I broke my Ryzen 5 5600X and need a replacement for my B550-F motherboard. I mainly play competitive FPS games and live in New Zealand, so I'm trying to find the best value option locally. I've been considering the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but I'm not sure whether it's worth the extra cost or if another AM4 processor would offer better value. My priority is improved gaming performance and smooth 1% lows, and I'd prefer an upgrade rather than buying the same CPU again.

Moving from a Ryzen 5 5600 to an X3D chip made a noticeable difference in 1% lows at 1440p in games such as Overwatch and The Finals. That can make gameplay feel smoother even when average FPS does not increase dramatically.
The Ryzen 7 5800X3D is the strongest gaming CPU available for this platform, so it makes sense if you can afford it and want to keep your current motherboard for several more years. A cheaper Ryzen 5 5600 would work, but it would be more of a replacement than an upgrade.
Your graphics card and resolution matter. If you play at high settings or use a weaker GPU, a 5800X3D could be overkill. If you have a fast GPU and a high-refresh-rate monitor, the 5700X3D or 5800X3D is more likely to be worthwhile. The Ryzen 5 5600, 5600X, or Ryzen 7 5700X are sensible lower-cost replacements.
A Ryzen 7 5700X3D is also worth checking. It usually offers excellent gaming performance and much better value than the 5800X3D, while still giving you the larger 3D V-Cache benefit in FPS games.
I previously had a 5600X and it failed, so I’d rather move to something noticeably faster instead of buying the same class of CPU again.
