What parts should I pair with an RTX 5070 for a gaming PC under $1,000?

I'm building a gaming PC for my wife and already have an RTX 5070 that we got at a great price, so the remaining parts need to stay under about $1,000. She mainly plays Call of Duty and cozy games, and I'd like the system to be capable and useful for several years. We live in a rural part of the Midwest without a nearby Micro Center or much of a local used market, so most parts will need to be purchased new or sourced through eBay and similar sites. What CPU, motherboard, memory, storage, power supply, and case would make the most sense?

Be careful with sample lists that are already over $1,000 before adding storage or other missing parts. Since the graphics card is already covered, prioritize a modern upgradeable platform, 32GB of RAM, at least 1TB of SSD storage, and a quality 750W unit from a known brand. Compare prices across several retailers because rural shipping can change the total quite a bit.

For a balanced long-term build, I’d start with a Ryzen 5 7600 or Ryzen 7 7700, a B650 motherboard, 32GB of DDR5-6000 memory, a 1TB or 2TB NVMe SSD, and a quality 750W power supply. Add a decent airflow case and an inexpensive tower cooler if the CPU does not include one. That should pair well with the 5070 without spending money where it will not improve gaming performance.

A high-end CPU such as a 7800X3D can work, but it may use too much of the remaining budget once you include storage, the power supply, and the case. For Call of Duty and typical cozy games, a Ryzen 7600 or 7700 leaves more room for 32GB of RAM, a reliable SSD, and a good PSU while still providing plenty of performance.

I agree that the complete parts list matters more than buying the most expensive CPU. Make sure the build includes storage and a reputable power supply rather than putting nearly the entire budget into the processor.
