I'm an art student with no programming experience, and I'm planning an interactive digital poetry collection. I'd like to use a tool where clicking can reveal more text, trigger sounds, play videos, and move between different screens or scenes. Ideally, viewers should be able to open another screen and then return to the place they came from. I'm looking for something free or inexpensive and as beginner-friendly as possible. What software would be a good place to start?

PowerPoint can technically do most of this with hyperlinks, animations, audio, video, and slide transitions. It may be useful for testing the structure of your piece, but a more interactive tool like Scratch would probably give the final project a more intentional and polished feel.
MIT Scratch could handle all of those interactions. You can make clickable objects, reveal text, play sounds and videos, change backgrounds, and switch between scenes. It’s free and designed for beginners, so it might be a good way to prototype the project without needing much programming experience.
I’ll look into it—thank you! That sounds much closer to what I need.

I had considered PowerPoint, but I’d rather use it only as a last resort because of the visual style I’m aiming for.
