I'm on the hunt for IT Asset Management software and I'm curious if anyone has gone through this process recently. Specifically, I'm looking for any frameworks, scorecards, or criteria that helped you with your selection. What should I consider?

When I was evaluating options a few years back, I started by doing a Google search to spot the best candidates. After narrowing down my choices based on our needs and budget, I trialed each platform to see how well they fit. A good tip is to list your criteria first. Identify must-have features versus those you could live without. For example, do you need an auto-discovery agent for devices? Are integrations with helpdesk platforms or mobile apps a priority for you?
In my experience, I map out the Asset Management process and data requirements first, then create a scorecard. This helps distinguish between must-have and nice-to-have features. A key piece of advice is to involve the teams that will actually use the software in the selection process. This way, they won't have complaints down the line!
Smart method. I’ll map out the process and build a scorecard. And yeah, involving the team sounds like a lifesaver.
First, consider your primary goal: are you looking to improve daily operations, prep for an infosec audit, or cut expenses? Your criteria could include things like integrations and automations, company size (do you need something enterprise-level or more affordable?), the types of assets to track (hardware, software, etc.), the payment model (cost per asset, per employee), platform usability, and essential features (like vendor management and spend reporting). If you search for "asset management" here, you'll find more ideas too!
Really appreciate the criteria list, some of those I hadn’t even considered.
Thanks! That’s super helpful. I’ll start by making a list of questions the tool should answer for us and go from there.
