I'm a beginner PC builder, and I opened my computer for only the second time. I removed the single RAM stick to inspect it, but had trouble reinstalling it. I pressed down on both ends, though it never made the usual clicking sound. Now the PC powers on but sends no signal to the monitor and produces an unusually deep humming noise. What should I check to fix it?

Try removing the stick and reinstalling it carefully. Make sure you’re using the same slot it was in originally, and check both sides afterward to confirm it’s level and completely inserted. A system often won’t show anything on the monitor when the memory isn’t detected. The humming may be a fan running at full speed because the system failed its startup check, so listen for its source once the RAM is secured.
The RAM probably isn’t fully seated. Turn the PC off, switch off the power supply, and unplug it. Check that the notch in the RAM matches the ridge in the motherboard slot, then press evenly on both ends until the retention clip or clips lock into place. Don’t force it if the notch isn’t aligned.
