I'm planning to build or buy a PC that can average close to 600 FPS in CS2 so I can make better use of my 600 Hz Zowie monitor. I'm playing stretched resolution with competitive settings, so I care more about maximum FPS, consistent frame times, and strong 1% lows than visual quality. I'm considering an RTX 5080, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, and 32–48 GB of DDR5-6200 CL30 memory. I don't have a strict budget, but I'd prefer a sensible performance-to-value build instead of paying for hardware that won't meaningfully improve CS2. Would this combination be excessive, or is hardware at this level actually necessary for a good 600 Hz experience? I'd especially like feedback from people who have tested high-refresh-rate CS2 systems and can share realistic average FPS and 1% low results.

Be careful with claims about maintaining 600 FPS. Average FPS can look impressive while 1% lows remain much lower, especially during intense fights, smokes, and busy moments. Current hardware may deliver very high averages, but consistently exceeding 400 FPS in the lows is much harder. Benchmark your own maps and settings rather than treating a single advertised number as guaranteed.
You probably don’t need to go beyond the 9800X3D and a strong modern GPU. A 9070 XT-class card and 32 GB of RAM could already be enough for a very capable competitive build, depending on your resolution and settings. The RTX 5080 makes sense if you want extra headroom or play other demanding games, but it may provide limited benefit in CS2 once the processor becomes the bottleneck.
A 9800X3D with an RTX 5080 is already an extremely high-end CS2 setup. At competitive settings, the CPU and memory configuration will usually matter more than moving to an even faster GPU. Focus on a clean Windows setup, current chipset and graphics drivers, sensible BIOS settings, and stable cooling before spending more.
Memory tuning can help with CPU-limited frame rates and 1% lows, but it is not a guaranteed path to a constant 600 FPS. A well-tuned DDR5 kit with tight timings may improve consistency, although simply buying more RAM will not automatically raise performance. Thirty-two GB is generally enough for CS2 unless you also run demanding applications in the background.

How difficult is memory tuning compared with CPU or GPU overclocking? I’ve done some processor and graphics-card overclocking, but I haven’t adjusted DDR5 timings before.
