I'm currently a DevOps Engineer and I'm trying to decide between getting a MacBook or a Mac Mini for my personal use. I'm looking for something that is stable and runs smoothly. Any thoughts on whether the MacBook Air or Mac Mini is worth it for longevity? Also, if anyone has any other recommendations with specs, I'd love to hear them!

I’m leaning toward the MacBook as well. A Mac Mini is not really practical for meetings since you can't just pick it up and go. I'd recommend getting at least mid-tier specs, and invest in AppleCare to make sure it lasts 5+ years.

Good point! Which one do you think is better between the Air and the Pro?

If you need portability, definitely go for the MacBook. I suggest the 15" model if you can swing it. I upgraded from the M1 13" to the M4 15" and the larger screen is fantastic for coding and DevOps work. Plus, it's easy to take to meetings!

That's what I'm thinking too! But I'm curious, should I get the MacBook Air or the Pro?

If you're considering a MacBook Pro, check if they still have HDMI plugs. It's super handy for connecting to projectors and screens in meeting rooms without needing dongles.

I’d suggest the Mac Mini if your critical development is mostly at home. You can use a cheaper laptop for when you’re out and about.

Honestly, the specs won’t be a huge deal since most of your work will probably be on remote systems. Just choose based on how mobile you need to be.

First, figure out if you want a laptop or a desktop. The Mac Mini is a great machine for the price, but if you plan to work on the go, a laptop is obviously the better choice, even though it's pricier.
