Is the used RTX 4070 Ti SUPER worth £180 more than an RTX 5070?

I'm planning my first gaming PC and I'm deciding between two used graphics cards from CeX: an ASUS Prime RTX 5070 12GB OC Edition with GDDR7 for £590, or a Gigabyte RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB WINDFORCE Max OC with GDDR6X for £770. Besides the extra 4GB of VRAM, does the 4070 Ti SUPER offer enough of a performance benefit to justify paying nearly £200 more? I'm planning to pair the GPU with a Ryzen 7 9700X. I was considering 16GB of RAM initially, since 32GB is difficult to fit into the budget right now.

The 4070 Ti SUPER is still a very capable card for 1440p and benefits from both higher performance and 16GB of VRAM. However, £770 is a lot for a used one and puts it close to newer options. If you can find an RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070, or RX 9070 XT around that price, those may offer better value. Between the two cards listed, I’d save the money and buy the RTX 5070.

At those prices, I’d choose the RTX 5070. The 4070 Ti SUPER is faster and its 16GB of VRAM gives it more longevity, but it’s generally only around 10% faster at 1440p. That doesn’t seem worth an extra £180 unless you’re targeting 4K, ultrawide 1440p, or especially demanding ray-traced games. Twelve gigabytes should be fine for 1440p for now.

If you mainly play single-player games, the RTX 5070’s frame-generation features can be useful and the added latency is usually less noticeable there. AMD’s RX 9070 series is also worth checking because it often offers 16GB of VRAM and strong raster performance for less money, although Nvidia may be preferable if you specifically want its upscaling, ray tracing, or broader feature support.

The RX 9070 and 9070 XT are worth considering, but the best choice depends on the games you play. Competitive esports titles and older games can sometimes behave differently across drivers, so checking benchmarks for your specific games would be sensible.
