My laptop was working normally before I went out for a walk, but when I came back it wouldn't power on. The charging indicator still lights up as usual, but the display or power indicator does not. I've tried holding the power button down several times without success. I also spilled water on it about two weeks ago. I left it to dry for a day, and it seemed fine until now. Could the old spill be causing this, and is there anything safe I can try before taking it in for repair?

The previous water spill could still be the cause. Even when a laptop appears dry, minerals left behind by the water can lead to corrosion or a short circuit later. Simply leaving it out for a day doesn’t remove that residue. Stop trying to power it on or charge it, and have it opened and inspected by a repair technician as soon as possible.
There may still be moisture or corrosion inside, but don’t use a hot hair dryer because heat and static can damage components or push moisture farther in. If you’re experienced with laptop disassembly, disconnect the battery and inspect it in a dry area; otherwise, the safest option is professional cleaning and diagnosis.
I was really hoping the earlier drying had solved it, but I understand now that corrosion can show up later. I’ll avoid repeatedly pressing the power button and get it checked instead.
