Keyboard Input Becomes Delayed or Unresponsive in Certain Games

For the past few weeks, my keyboard has behaved strangely whenever I launch certain games. In games such as Dead by Daylight, Omori, Minecraft, and BizHawk, some key presses are delayed or ignored. If I hold a key for too long, it may continue acting as though it is being pressed and trigger actions on its own. The slowdown can remain on my computer even after I close the game. Hitman: World of Assassination seems unaffected while it is running, although the rest of the system may still feel delayed afterward. The keyboard is connected by USB. How can I diagnose and fix this?

The fact that only some games are affected could point to software intercepting keyboard input. Check for macro tools, remapping utilities, controller emulators, overlays, and old game-controller drivers running in the background. Steam's controller configuration can also affect certain games, so try disabling its generic controller support and testing again.

First test whether the issue happens with a different keyboard. Also try plugging the current one directly into another USB port instead of using a splitter or hub. If another keyboard works normally, the original keyboard, its cable, or its connection is probably the cause. Make sure Windows and your device drivers are fully updated too.
