Why Can’t I Install Google Messages on This Android Phone?

I'm helping my grandmother switch from Samsung Messages because the phone says it's being discontinued. However, Google Messages is the only app she can't download. When I open its store page, it reports that there's no internet connection, even though other apps work normally. What could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

First, restart the phone and try both Wi-Fi and mobile data. If the problem continues, open Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage and clear its cache, then do the same for Google Play Services. Also check for pending system updates and make sure the phone has enough free storage. If the store still shows no connection only for Google Messages, the phone may not support the current version, or the app could already be installed or disabled under a different name. Check Settings > Apps for Google Messages and enable it if necessary.

That makes sense. I’ll check whether it’s already installed or disabled, then clear the store cache and try again on mobile data.
