I'm in the EU and currently have an RX 9060 XT. I found an RX 9070 XT for around €800, while an RTX 4070 Ti Super is closer to €1,100. My previous card was an RTX 2060, and I never had driver or software problems with it. With the RX 9060 XT, I've had to reinstall Adrenalin and the graphics drivers several times, so I'm wondering whether Nvidia drivers are generally more reliable or whether I should stay with AMD. I currently use a 14th-generation Intel Core i5, but I'm planning to move to an AM5 platform alongside the new GPU. I'd also like to move beyond 1080p while maintaining high frame rates. Which card makes the most sense for this price difference?

I wouldn’t choose based only on the idea that Nvidia drivers are always safer. Both companies have occasional bad releases. I’ve used AMD for years without needing repeated reinstalls, while Nvidia drivers have also caused bugs and required rollbacks for me. Driver reliability can depend heavily on the games and software you use.
The upgrade from an RX 9060 XT makes sense if you want higher resolutions and substantially higher frame rates. Some benchmarks show the 9070 XT performing close to twice as fast in certain games, so moving to 1440p or even trying 4K is a much more noticeable upgrade than simply changing platforms. You could also upgrade the CPU first and check whether it changes your current experience.
I know the 9060 XT is still perfectly capable at 1080p, but I enjoy passing the older parts down to family, so the upgrade is partly practical and partly just for fun.
The 4070 Ti Super at €1,100 is severely overpriced. The RX 9070 XT is at least in the performance range where the comparison is meaningful, and it offers much better value at €800. Nvidia’s ray tracing advantage isn’t enough to make up that difference for most gaming builds.
Ray tracing is no longer an automatic reason to dismiss the 9070 XT, although Nvidia can still be preferable for certain games and heavier RT settings.
At those prices, the RX 9070 XT is the obvious value choice. It’s generally faster in standard rasterized gaming, has newer features, and €800 is far more reasonable than €1,100 for a 4070 Ti Super. Nvidia may still have advantages in some ray-tracing or creator workloads, but that price gap is difficult to justify for gaming alone.
The 4070 Ti Super would make more sense if it were priced much closer to the 9070 XT. At €1,100, I’d be looking at newer cards instead of paying that much for it.
Before judging the AMD card, it’s worth checking whether the old Nvidia drivers were completely removed. A clean driver cleanup or fresh Windows installation can rule out conflicts after switching brands.
