I'm new to PC building and want to put together a high-end system that should remain capable for several years. My main priority for gaming is smooth performance and a sharp display rather than maximizing graphical settings. I'd appreciate advice on whether a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 makes more sense, whether there's a GPU under $1,000 that offers good performance, and whether my selected CPU cooler will be sufficient. I'm also trying to understand the differences between 12-core and 16-core Ryzen 9 processors, as well as the distinctions between standard X and X3D models.

This is already a high-end build rather than just mid-to-high-end. For a graphics card under $1,000, the Radeon 9070 XT is probably the closest option to the RTX 5080 in overall performance. Nvidia’s RTX 5070 may fit the budget, but it would be a fairly substantial performance step down. Since your workload includes editing, mixing, and multitasking—not just gaming—a Ryzen 9 is a sensible choice because the additional cores can help with those tasks.
One alternative parts list was suggested, including changes to the memory and storage. Those changes may be worth checking, but the reasoning should be confirmed before swapping parts—capacity, speed, timings, endurance, and pricing all matter more than simply choosing a different brand or model.
What were the reasons for changing the RAM and SSD? I’d like to understand the trade-offs rather than just copy the replacement list.

I’m still learning what counts as high-end, so that helps put the parts list in perspective. For Ryzen 9, is there a major difference between the 12-core and 16-core versions? I’m also wondering how the regular X models compare with the X3D chips.
