I bought a second-hand iPad Mini 2 that originally belonged to a deceased family member of the previous owner. When I try to set it up, it asks for a passcode or account credentials that I don't have. The tablet is running iOS 9.3.5, and the only bypass method I've found involves using an Arduino Uno, which doesn't seem worth the effort. Is there any legitimate way to reuse the device, or is it essentially a paperweight?

Realistically, it may not be useful as a normal tablet. Without the passcode or the original owner's account credentials, you can't properly activate or reset it, and older iOS versions also have very limited app and browser support. The practical options are to have the previous owner remove it from their account, use it for parts, or recycle it. Turning the display into an external screen for a Pixel 5 would be a difficult hardware project rather than a simple connection, since the iPad's panel isn't designed to accept standard video input.
