Best Lightweight Distro for an Old Laptop with VMware

Hey everyone! I've got a Dell D630 laptop sitting around, equipped with a Core 2 Duo processor, an upgraded SSD, and either 4 or 8 GB of RAM. It used to run Windows 7, but now I'm looking for a lightweight Linux distro that can handle VMware Workstation. I need this setup to run a Home Assistant VM 24/7. Since Home Assistant isn't too demanding, I think keeping it in a VM would be ideal for portability in case the laptop has issues. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Heads up, VMware Workstation doesn’t really support Core 2 processors anymore. I'd recommend checking out VirtualBox or KVM instead. Most lightweight distros like Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Debian, or antiX should work well for your needs!

Got it, thanks for the tips! What about using VMware Player instead?

You might want to look into Bodhi Linux 7.0 HWE. It's designed to be lightweight and should work well on your laptop. Give it a shot!

Thanks, I'll definitely check it out!
