Can I Reset a Domain Joined Windows 11 PC While Keeping User Files?

I'm looking for help with a Windows 11 PC that's joined to a hybrid Azure AD domain and has some pesky A/V software installed by a previous managed service provider. We haven't been able to get in touch with them for assistance in removing it. I'm considering using the 'Reset this PC' option and selecting 'Keep my files'. Here are my concerns: 1. Will the user's files still be preserved after the reset, given that they are using a domain account? 2. Will I be able to reconnect the machine to the domain afterward? 3. Will this process effectively remove the SentinelOne A/V software? I've thought about backing up files to OneDrive just in case, but I'm unsure if this method is the best way to proceed. Any suggestions would be super helpful!

When you choose 'Keep my files', it usually retains the software too, so SentinelOne might still be there. Make sure to double-check everything before committing to that reset.

To remove SentinelOne without hassle, your best bet is to get an EXE installer. Boot into safe mode and run 'Sentineloneinstaller.exe -c'. This will clear it out. Just make sure you have everything you need backed up before going this route.

I’d recommend backing up the user files first to OneDrive, then re-image the PC. If it’s managed through Intune or any MDM, reach out to your organization’s IT to follow their rebuilding procedures. If the previous MSP was managing it, ask them to release the device for you. Always better to have a backup plan!

Honestly, I’d say back up whatever the user needs and just go for a complete re-image. That’s usually the safest bet to make sure everything’s clean. You won't have to worry about any leftover software that way.
