My PC was damaged a few months ago, and I had to replace the graphics card and motherboard. I've now found the same motherboard I previously used, an MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI Micro ATX AM4, and I originally planned to replace my old Gigabyte GAMING OC GeForce RTX 4060 8GB with the same model. However, its price has increased, so I'm wondering whether there's a cheaper or better alternative. With an $800 budget, you don’t need to settle for an RTX 4060. Compare current cards such as the RTX 5060 or suitable AMD Radeon 9000-series options, depending on whether you care more about ray tracing, upscaling, or raw performance. Just make sure your power supply, case clearance, and CPU won’t limit the upgrade.
The used market is worth checking, especially if you can find a clean RTX 3080 or another higher-tier card at a reasonable price. A used RTX 3060 12GB can also be a decent budget choice, but it’s generally not a worthwhile upgrade over a 4060 unless it’s substantially cheaper. Check the card’s condition and power requirements before buying.
I’d avoid choosing a GPU solely because it has a higher model number. Compare actual performance and pricing in your region. The RTX 5060 is the direct newer replacement for the 4060, but if it’s overpriced, an AMD alternative or a discounted previous-generation card may offer more performance for the money.
