I've been using a Ryzen 9 3900X with an RTX 2080 Super for several years, and I'm considering a new gaming build. I mainly play Apex Legends, CS2, PUBG, World of Warcraft, and Call of Duty, including Warzone and multiplayer. I currently use both a 1440p 144Hz monitor and a 1080p 240Hz monitor.
My original budget was around €2,500, but the parts list has already climbed to roughly €3,300 in Finland. I'd like the system to stay capable for the next three to six years without needing frequent upgrades.
The parts I'm considering are:
- GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 5070 Ti TUF Gaming OC 16GB, or ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 TUF Gaming OC 16GB
- Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI AM5 ATX
- CPU: Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- CPU cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
- Storage: Two Kingston NV3 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSDs
- Case: Phanteks Eclipse G370A DRGB
- PSU: Corsair RM850e
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR5-6000 32GB CL38
How does the build look as a whole, and are there areas where I could reduce the cost without sacrificing longevity or gaming performance?

The parts are generally compatible, but the system looks excessive for the games listed, especially at 1440p. The 9800X3D makes sense if you want excellent CPU performance for competitive games and several years of use, but the GPU choice should depend on whether you really need the extra performance of the RTX 5080. I’d also consider faster-timed DDR5-6000 memory, such as a CL30 kit, instead of CL38. The Kingston NV3 drives are budget-oriented, so spending a little more on better SSDs could be worthwhile for a premium build. An 850W PSU is likely fine for the lower GPU option, but check the recommended power supply carefully if you choose the RTX 5080.
For your original budget, a Ryzen 7 9700X paired with a Radeon RX 9070 XT could be a much better-balanced option and should bring the total closer to €2,500. That combination is already very capable for high-refresh-rate 1440p gaming, so the 9800X3D and RTX 5080 may be more performance than you’ll actually use.
That’s fair. I know the system is more powerful than strictly necessary, but I’d rather buy something that stays strong for new games over the next three to six years instead of replacing parts every year. I’m mainly looking for feedback on the complete build and where it makes sense to adjust it.
