I have an older 1TB SSD that I removed after upgrading my computer to a 4TB drive. When I put the old SSD into a USB enclosure, Windows detects the enclosure as Disk 1 and shows it as online with drive letter D:, but no usable partitions or storage appear. The drive used to work in this same enclosure, and I'm hoping to either recover the missing data or securely prepare the SSD to sell to a friend. What should I check before creating a new partition or formatting it?

First confirm that the enclosure supports the type of SSD you have. Some enclosures only support SATA drives, while others only support NVMe, although newer dual-protocol models can handle both.
