The Intel Core i5-14400F with DDR4 and AMD Ryzen 5 5600 cost about the same where I live. I mainly use my PC for gaming, so which processor would be the stronger choice overall?

If you can stretch the budget, a Core i5-14600KF would be a stronger upgrade than either option. Otherwise, choose the i5-14400F for the best gaming performance at the same price.

The Core i5-14400F is the faster gaming CPU in most cases, even when both systems use DDR4. It generally has stronger single-core performance and a noticeably better multicore result, although the difference in games can depend on your graphics card and resolution.

The i5-14400F is the clear performance winner, but the Ryzen 5 5600 can still be a better budget option if the complete AM4 build costs less. The value difference may matter more if you need to spend extra on the motherboard or other components.
