My fiancée and I currently have gaming setups in separate rooms, but we'd like to play alongside each other. The only available space is about 200 cm wide. Would that be comfortable enough for two people over long gaming sessions? I usually play with a controller, while she uses a mouse and keyboard, although I switch to mouse and keyboard for competitive games. Two hundred centimeters gives you roughly 100 cm per person, so it can work, but it will probably feel fairly tight. A clean, minimalist setup and keeping the desktops on the floor would make a big difference. More space would definitely be more comfortable, though.
My partner and I use a side-by-side setup that’s about 240 cm wide, and it works even with two desktop PCs, speakers, and other equipment. It gets cramped when the desks become cluttered, but keeping only the essentials out helps a lot. Two hundred centimeters should be workable if you’re comfortable sacrificing some personal space.
A single long tabletop may be the simplest solution. Put both computers under the desk, use monitor arms if possible, and avoid bulky accessories. The setup won’t feel luxurious, but if you both enjoy spending time together, the reduced space may be worth the trade-off.
The desk surface probably isn’t the biggest issue—100 cm per person is usable. The chairs and legroom are what you should test carefully. Two people moving around in office chairs can bump into each other, especially if either of you sits at an angle or tucks a leg underneath. Try marking out the desk dimensions with tape or cardboard and sitting there together before buying anything.
