Is upgrading from an RTX 3060 to an RTX 5070 worth it, and how hot will it run?

I recently got a dual-fan RTX 5070 and have seen people describe it as hot and loud. Noise is not a major concern, but I'm wondering how warm it might get in a room that can reach the mid-to-high 20s Celsius, and whether those temperatures could damage the GPU or other components. I usually play at 1440p and don't often run extremely demanding games at 4K with maximum settings. Since my RTX 3060 was already working hard at 1440p, should I expect a major increase in heat, or will the 5070 still be fine?

If the card runs warmer or louder than you like, you can undervolt it, set a sensible frame limit, or reduce the power limit. That can significantly lower power consumption and temperatures while still leaving the 5070 much faster than the 3060.

People often exaggerate how hot these cards get. One dual-fan 5070 owner reported staying below 70°C most of the time, even during a 30–35°C heatwave, after undervolting the card. Staying under the low 80s under load is generally a reasonable target, though the exact result depends on the specific model and case.

Yes, it’s a substantial performance upgrade. Several people have made similar jumps from a 3060 or 3060 Ti to a 5070 and found that modern games run much better at 1440p. A dual-fan model can still cool the card adequately; the number of fans alone doesn’t determine whether it will overheat.
