Why Does My Computer Take So Long to Boot Up Sometimes?

Lately, I've been experiencing an annoying issue with my computer. Sometimes, when I wake it up from sleep mode, instead of the usual Windows lock screen, I'm greeted with a black screen displaying 'Gigabyte TM' and 'Insist on Ultra Durable TM.' This screen can hang around for about 10 to 25 minutes before my computer finally loads to the lock screen. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I would appreciate any simple advice on what I can check or update to fix this. Thanks!

There could be a couple of reasons for your long boot time. First, it might be a software issue—like a corrupted Windows installation, outdated drivers, or BIOS problems. I'd suggest updating your BIOS, drivers, and Windows. If that doesn't help, you could consider doing a clean install using a USB drive. Here's a [good guide](https://rtech.support/windows/) on how to do it.

On the hardware side, a failing drive or an issue with the CPU/motherboard could also be the culprit. It might be worth taking your computer to a service shop for diagnostics rather than randomly replacing parts.

Check your power settings for an option called "fast startup." If it's enabled, try disabling it. You can do this by going to Control Panel, then Power Options, and click on 'Choose what the power buttons do.' Make sure to uncheck "Turn on fast startup" and save the changes. This might help speed things up!

I recommend starting by reinstalling the operating system. It’s often the quickest way to resolve many boot issues and could clear up any underlying problems.

Do you know if your boot drive is an SSD? If you're using a traditional spinning hard drive instead, that could explain the slow boot times. Upgrading to an SSD would make a big difference. If you already have an SSD and it’s still slow, consider backing up your data and looking into replacing that drive.

How old is your computer? Sometimes, age can lead to slower boot times, especially if the hardware is starting to wear down.

Just curious, once your computer finally boots up, how does it perform? Is it responsive, or does everything take a long time? Like, does right-clicking on the desktop lag? That can give us more clues.
