My USB headset suddenly stopped playing audio in one ear. I moved the cable around to check whether the headset was damaged, but other headphones connected to the same computer had the same problem. I reset Windows and bought a new pair of IEMs, yet the issue remains. The original headset also failed when I tested it on another laptop, so I'm unsure whether both the headset and the computer have separate problems. I've already reinstalled and updated audio devices in Device Manager, checked left/right balance, and run the audio troubleshooter. If I pull the plug out slightly, I can briefly hear sound in both ears, which makes me suspect the audio jack may be dirty, damaged, or not making proper contact. What should I check next?

The fact that pulling the plug out slightly restores both channels strongly suggests a problem with the 3.5 mm jack or the connector, rather than Windows or the audio drivers. The contacts may be dirty, bent, worn, or not lining up correctly. Check that the plug is fully inserted, gently clean the jack with compressed air, and inspect it for damage. If possible, test the headphones through a USB audio adapter or another sound output; if both channels work there, the computer’s analog jack is the likely culprit.
That makes sense. I initially thought the old headset had somehow affected the ports, but the brief moment of stereo audio when the plug is partially withdrawn points much more toward a loose or dirty jack.
