Apple Store Used Carrier Financing Instead of Apple Card Installments—How Can I Fix It?

About a month ago, I bought an iPhone 17 Pro Max at an Apple Store in San Antonio and clearly requested Apple Card Monthly Installments. The employee said that was possible, but I had to authenticate my AT&T account because I'm an authorized user on my father's plan. He completed the authentication, I paid the sales tax with my Apple Card, and I left believing the phone had been placed on ACMI.

A week later, the installment still wasn't showing on my Apple Card. Apple Card Support told me it might still be processing, so I waited. After about a month, I discovered that the phone had actually been financed through AT&T instead.

I never received an emailed receipt, and the purchase doesn't appear in my Apple order history. Apple couldn't locate the transaction until I provided the phone's serial number. I've spoken with Apple Support, Apple Card Support, AT&T, the original store, and another Apple Store, but each one has directed me somewhere else.

The original store leader said the only solution is to return the phone and buy another one through ACMI. Unfortunately, they no longer have the same model in stock. I also contacted Apple Card Support while I was still within the return window, but I was told to wait because the installment was supposedly processing.

I'm not looking for a free phone—I just want the financing option I requested at the time of purchase. Is there an escalation team or executive customer-relations department that can authorize a better solution? Has anyone dealt with a store processing carrier financing instead of Apple Card installments?

The return-and-repurchase option is probably the cleanest official fix. Ask whether the store can process the return now and let you place an order for the exact model, with the replacement shipped to you when it becomes available. That may avoid losing the phone entirely while still correcting the financing.

If the store refuses to provide the same model through an exchange, you could ask whether they can approve an exception to order it for you before completing the return. Escalating through Apple’s executive customer-relations channel may also be worth trying, especially since you reported the missing installment during the original return period and were told to wait.

Carrier financing is a real alternative to Apple Card installments, so the phone may have been attached to an AT&T installment agreement rather than being charged through ACMI. The main practical difference is that carrier financing usually ties the remaining balance to keeping the wireless service active. Ask AT&T for the exact payoff amount and terms before deciding whether to keep it.

That arrangement can be convenient if someone wants everything on one wireless bill, but it doesn’t solve the main problem here: the customer specifically requested ACMI and was given the wrong financing option.
