Hey everyone! I could use some advice here. I've been using my trusty 8-year-old GTX 1080 and, surprisingly, I'm still managing to play most games at over 60 fps on 1440p with a few tweaks. However, with GPU prices being insane in recent years, I've held off on upgrading. Now I'm looking at the RTX 5070, which I've found for about 600€ in Spain—a rare good deal! My main concern is whether my current setup can handle the upgrade without major bottlenecks. The rest of my components are only 5 years old, including an overclocked CPU running at 4.9GHz. Should I proceed with the GPU upgrade, or would I need to change other components like RAM or the PSU? I really appreciate any insights!

Sounds like a good deal to me! I've still got my RTX 3080 running smoothly at 2K 144Hz. Your setup should be able to manage a new GPU.
If you're just upgrading the GPU, you should be fine. While upgrading your CPU at the same time would yield better performance, the RTX 5070 is still a significant improvement over the 1080. I had a similar setup, and even with some bottlenecks, I was happy with my gaming performance after upgrading to a more powerful card.
Just a heads up: bottlenecking is a part of any PC upgrade. Your CPU might limit what the 5070 can do, but it’s not catastrophic. You could stick with your current setup to see how it performs, and just know that an upgrade will be needed down the line. You'll still see a good boost in gaming!
Yes, you might experience some bottlenecking, but it shouldn't be a huge issue. The upgrade will still bring noticeable performance improvements, especially over that old GTX 1080. However, consider bumping up your memory for a better experience, too.
Upgrading to the RTX 5070 is definitely worthwhile, especially with more games pushing ray tracing features that your GTX 1080 can't handle. It might be worth considering a CPU and motherboard upgrade in the future, though.
I totally get that; balancing costs can be tough! Keeping the current CPU might work until DDR5 becomes more mainstream. It sounds like a solid plan to wait for the right time to upgrade.
