The Windows disk repair process for the C: drive has been stuck around 72–74% during Stage 2 for at least 10 minutes, although the percentage is still slowly increasing. Is it best to leave it running, and why can this stage take so long? I'm willing to wait several hours, but I'd like to know whether Stage 2 is the final stage or if additional stages will run afterward.

It may take hours to finish. Avoid interrupting the process while it’s still making progress, since stopping a disk check partway through could cause additional problems.
Let it continue running. Disk repair can take several hours, especially when it’s checking or fixing a large number of files, so a slow-moving percentage doesn’t necessarily mean it has frozen.

How many stages are there altogether?
