I'm building a gaming PC with a budget of about $1,000 and am considering the RX 9060 XT. The 16GB model costs around $600 where I live, while the cheapest 8GB version is about $350. I mainly play Valorant, CS2, and Minecraft, but I may try other games later. Should I choose the 8GB or 16GB card, and would a 1080p or 1440p monitor make more sense?

If you want to play newer or more demanding games later, the 16GB version is the safer long-term choice. It makes more sense for 1440p, while either model should handle your current games easily at 1080p. That said, the extra $250 is a big premium, so only pay it if you genuinely expect to use the additional VRAM.
For your current games, I’d choose a 1080p high-refresh-rate monitor, ideally 144Hz or higher. Valorant and CS2 benefit more from high refresh rates than from 1440p resolution. Choose 1440p if you care more about sharper visuals or plan to play demanding single-player games, but don’t feel obligated to buy the 16GB card just for your current game list.
For Valorant, CS2, and Minecraft, the RX 9060 XT is already more GPU than you need. The 8GB model should be perfectly capable at 1080p, and spending $600 on the 16GB version probably isn’t worthwhile for those games. A cheaper or used graphics card could give you better value, especially if you put more of the budget toward a strong CPU.
I’d look at used alternatives or other midrange cards before buying the 16GB model at that price. Cards such as a used RX 6800 or RX 7700 XT may offer stronger overall value, and an Intel Arc card with 12GB could also be enough. For a $1,000 build, balancing the whole system is more important than buying an oversized GPU for esports games.
