How Can I Tell Which AI Models Are Good for Writing?

I'm new to the AI scene and using OpenRouter to access various models, but I'm not sure how to evaluate which ones are genuinely creative or effective. First off, I understand that context size relates to memory, but how can I gauge a model's intelligence before I actually try it out? I mainly use these models to help with my writing projects for family and friends, so I'm looking for reliable options. Secondly, I'm curious about determining if a model is uncensored. Since I write in the fantasy genre, things can get quite intense with combat and darker themes. Some models I've tried seem to shy away from that. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You can check out AI Ranker for a comprehensive leaderboard of AI models, showcasing their benchmark scores on various tests. For what you’re looking to do, the o4 mini high is currently considered the smartest, but there are other models better suited for different tasks. Since you're focusing on writing, I recommend choosing a model with a high context window for better responses.
