I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows 11 that is advertised as having 1TB of storage. However, File Explorer only shows about 474GB available. I can see another area of roughly 476GB in the system, but I don't know how to access it. Is the drive split into separate partitions, and how can I make the missing space usable without losing my data?

Open Disk Management by right-clicking the Start button and selecting it. Maximize the window and look at the disk layout. It sounds like the 1TB drive may have been divided into two partitions of roughly 500GB each. If the second partition has no drive letter, you may be able to assign one so it appears in File Explorer. Don’t format or delete anything until you confirm whether it contains data, since that could erase files.
