Best Used GPU Under $600 for 1440p Gaming and Future Resale?

I'm looking for a graphics card mainly as a temporary upgrade for 1440p gaming. My ideal price is $600 or less used, with an absolute maximum around $700 new or used. I want something that can handle almost all current games and remain capable for the next two or three years, while still retaining enough resale value to sell fairly easily when the next generation launches around 2028 or 2029.

The card will be paired with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, an 850W power supply, and 32GB of DDR5-6000 CL30 memory. I'd prefer at least 16GB of VRAM, although I'm unsure whether a 12GB card would be enough for 1440p. This is meant to be a solid holdover rather than a long-term purchase, since I'll probably upgrade within the first six months of the next GPU generation. What models offer the best balance of current performance, price, VRAM, and future resale value?

Used RX 7900 XT or 7900 XTX cards can also be strong options if local pricing is favorable. They offer plenty of VRAM and excellent raster performance, but older cards may depreciate faster once the next generation arrives, so a newer RX 9070 may be the safer temporary purchase.

The RX 9060 XT 16GB or RTX 5060 Ti 16GB could work if you find a particularly good deal, but they’re a noticeable step down for a card you want to keep comfortable at 1440p for several years. They cost less initially, yet the weaker performance may hurt their resale appeal more than it helps your budget.

You don’t absolutely need 16GB for 1440p today. A good 12GB card can still run most games, while 16GB mainly gives you extra headroom for higher textures, demanding new releases, and mods. If the price difference is small, choose 16GB; otherwise, prioritize the card’s overall performance rather than VRAM alone.

An RTX 5070 is worth considering if resale value and features such as ray tracing, upscaling, and frame generation matter more than raw price-to-performance. The 16GB version is preferable for your plan, but you may pay more for performance that is closer to the RX 9070 than the XT.

The Radeon RX 9070 is probably the best fit if you can find one near your target price. It has 16GB of VRAM, strong 1440p performance, and should remain useful for the next few years. The RX 9070 XT is faster, but it makes less sense if you’re trying to minimize the initial cost and resell it relatively soon. No card’s 2028–2029 resale value is guaranteed, though.
