Is the RX 9070 XT the better choice for VR sim racing, or is the RTX 5070 Ti worth the premium?

I'm planning a new gaming PC around a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. My current system is a laptop with a GTX 1650 Mobile, but I mainly want to play sim racing games and eventually get into VR racing with a Meta Quest 3. I can buy an RX 9070 XT for around $900, while an RTX 5070 Ti would cost about $1,500. Since VR performance and smooth frame rates are important, would the Nvidia card offer enough of an advantage to justify spending an extra $600, or would the RX 9070 XT be the better value?

At those prices, the 9070 XT is the clear recommendation. The exact value depends on your country and local pricing, but a 5070 Ti would need to be only modestly more expensive—not $600 more—to become a reasonable alternative.

Unless you specifically need an Nvidia feature or run a game that performs substantially better on Nvidia, there isn’t much reason to spend that much extra. The 9070 XT is the sensible option, especially since the price gap is far beyond the sort of premium the 5070 Ti normally deserves.

I have a 5070 Ti and like it, but I would never pay $1,400–$1,500 for one. The 9070 XT is competitive in many games and can sometimes come out ahead, making it the much better deal at these prices.

The RX 9070 XT and RTX 5070 Ti are close enough in overall performance that the $600 difference is extremely hard to justify. For VR sim racing, the 9070 XT should be a strong match for the 7800X3D, so I’d save the money and choose it.
