My Redmi Note 12 recently fell, and the display is no longer working. Some call-related functions, including the speaker, also seem to have stopped working. Is there a temporary way to view or control the phone from my laptop so I can access my files and work before I can afford a screen repair?

If your main goal is recovering your work, try connecting the phone to the laptop with a USB cable and see whether it appears as a storage device. This may require unlocking the phone and approving file access, so a mouse or previously configured backup service could be necessary. Since the fall also affected call audio, the phone may have more internal damage than just a broken display.

A USB-C-to-HDMI adapter may let you mirror the phone’s display to an external monitor or laptop, but compatibility depends on whether the phone supports video output over USB-C. Also, this would usually only solve the display problem—not touchscreen control. If the touchscreen still works, you might be able to navigate by feel or connect a USB mouse with an appropriate adapter.

The adapter could show the image, but you’d still need a way to interact with the phone. A USB mouse or keyboard may help if the phone accepts OTG devices.

The most reliable long-term fix is replacing the damaged screen. Before paying for that, you could try connecting a USB mouse through a USB-OTG adapter, then back up your files or enable another control method. If the phone is locked and USB debugging or file access wasn’t already enabled, laptop-based control may be limited.
